How to Celebrate Children's Day in China

Children’s Day in China
June 1 is Children’s Day in China. This annual celebration recognizes that children are the nation's future, and they require good education, supportive families and strong social networks to grow into future leaders. To celebrate, schools may show a series of children's films and younger kids may display their talents to parents and relatives.

June 1st is the day children can find lots of amusement in parks, cinemas, kids’ clubs, malls, restaurants. Children get presents and 'lucky' money from family and family friends. The whole country celebrates with cards, presents, special foods, parades, and other activities. Although schools remain open, children do not attend class and are free of homework. Students participate in a wide variety of activities to strengthen allegiances to their country, have fun, and take part in, and join youth organizations such as the Communist Youth League.The free children shows are pretty wonderful.
 

Origin of Childrens' Day 
In August 1925, some 54 representatives from different countries gathered together in Geneva, Switzerland to convene the first "World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children", during which the "Geneva Declaration Protecting Children" was passed. The proclamation made a strong appeal for the spiritual needs of children, relief for children in poverty, prevention of child labor, reassessing the way that children are educated and other issues related to the welfare of children around the world.

After the conference, various governments around the world designated a day, different in each country, as Children's Day, to encourage and bring joy to children as well as to draw the attention of society to children's issues.


Universal Children's Day
Universal Children's Day is on November 20. First proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children.

Many countries like China chose to celebrate the International Children's Day on June 1, which has been established in November 1949 at the International Democratic Women's League Council held in Moscow. The Day, which is also called the First of June, is explained as "an international memorial day that exists upon the purpose of securing lives and rights of children and encouraging their happiness and health".

Different countries celebrate Children's Day on different dates
May 5 is Children's Day in Japan. It became a national holiday in 1948, but it has been a day of celebration in Japan since ancient times. It was traditionally a festival for boys. Girls have their own festival, held on March 3.

In India, the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru is celebrated as Children's Day every year, on November 14.



The United States has selected first or second Sunday of the month of June to celebrate the spirit of children who are future of the nation. It also mark the whole week as the Family Week.

Australia has declared Children's Day on the first Sunday of July, while it celebrates last week of October as Children's week. It holds cultural activities on the occasion and collect funds for the disadvantaged kids by selling cards for the day.
